KANDY, SRI LANKA

I photographed Polwaththa Eco Lodges near Kandy, Sri Lanka, where they organise five-day nature and yoga retreats. Days here include yoga in a wooden jungle shala, walks through nearby villages, local cooking classes and time to explore the forest. Polwaththa also runs the Forest Healing Foundation, working to restore and protect the surrounding forest. Alongside this, they support local schools, farmers and employment in the village. For this retreat photography project, I captured the yoga sessions, accommodation and people working around the lodge. I wanted the photographs to show the place itself, but also the local community that is such a big part of it.
